Klipsch La Scala Speakers, Simaudio Moon Preamp and Amp, Pro-Ject Turntable

Having never before seen a pair of Klipsch La Scalas ($CAD15,000/pair) in person, I was pleasantly surprised by their appearance when I saw them in the Kennedy HiFi room. Looking stately, dare I say noble even, with their wide baffles and hardwood enclosures, the Klipsches were coupled to a system that included a Simaudio Moon 393 preamp ($CAD6800), a Moon 330 120Wpc power amp ($CAD4400), and a Pro-Ject 2Xperience turntable ($CAD1700 with arm and cartridge). Though the sound I heard lacked some refinement and air, it possessed great drive and a goodly amount of fun factor.

... would have been a Luxman LX-380 integrated amp.

Then, a Pro-Ject X2 or The Classic Evo in walnut finish would have created a more unified stylistic appearance.

DarTzeel

The DarTzeel guy develops his products specifically for Klipsch..

Of course, Canadians may not have enough .001% Wealthy people.

Luxman stuff is nice to own, I have to admit. ( to be honest )

... everyone keeps mentioning it.

Who needs that much power with 100dB sensitivity speakers?
Try a low power tube amp, instead.

The QUAD QII-Integrated would be another possibility.

They seem to have an attractive yet conservative range of Valve Amps that promise remarkable performance. Made in UK by loyal employees, Distribution out of Chicago by MoFi, needing a nice look-see by any of Stereophile's Gifted Reviewing Staff.

Front Cover Good Looks ? Probably

ps. ) However:

I imported Tim DeParavicini's entire Range of EAR Valve Amplification ( back in the 1980s ) which turned out to be duds, ( ouch, sorry ) Dave Wasserman at Stereo Exchange had no trouble selling em.

... AD had a listen to the QUAD QII-integrated amp and JA1 put it through his regimen of electrical tests.
AD found its sound quality to be particularly "satisfying" when driving his QUAD electrostatic speakers, while JA1 characterized it as "well-engineered" and noted that it "doesn't suffer from the measured ills that plague other tube amplifiers."

Quad QII Classic integrated measures 'surprisingly' well for a tube integrated ........ It measures much better than the recently reviewed (although less expensive) Cary Audio tube integrated :-) ..........

The new darTZeel LHC-208 integrated-amp/DAC ($17,000) may be a good match :-) .........

... phono preamp.

Bogolu Haranath's picture

It is a darTZeel ........ and it is comparatively 'bargain priced', for a darTZeel component ........ So, that is what matters most :-) .......

Hi-Fi news has reviewed the Klipsch La Scala AL5 speakers :-) ........
