High Water Sound's Jeffrey Catalano is renowned for assembling fantastic-sounding systems, room after room, year after year. Just as compelling as his sonic assemblages is his exceptional taste in music on vinyl. He did it again at T.H.E. Show NYC 2025, where he was joined by Colin King’s Gestalt Audio of Nashville..
The records Jeffrey brought spanned a cosmos of sound: jazz, ambient, space-age travel-rama epics, and down-and-dirty blues. Titles included Casimir Liberski ReTRio's The Z Suites, Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio's Cold As Weiss, Širom's In the Wind of Night, Hard‑Fallen Incantations Whisper, Sam Prekop's Open/Close, Natural Information Society's Perseverance Flow, Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet's Live Spirit I, Kamalesh Maitra's Raag Kirwani on Tabla Tarang, Hélène Grimaud and Sol Gabetta's Duo, Lucinda Chua's YIAN, and Nils Petter Molvær's Recoloured and Khmer Live in Bergen. If you're an adventurous listener seeking well-recorded sounds, let Catalano be your guide, or at least one of your guides.
As usual, Catalano's system made the great music exceptional. It included a Fuuga MC cartridge ($10,995), mounted on a TW-Acustic Raven 10.5 tonearm ($6000), on a TW‑Acustic Raven LS‑3 turntable ($25,000). Phono amplification consisted of a Cinnamon Audio Galle balanced SUT ($8250) into a Cinnamon Audio Galle phono stage ($32,995). A Cinnamon Galle DAC Model 2 ($32,995) and a Cinnamon Audio Galle NT ($11,995) handled digital.
New to Jeffrey's stable was the SW1X PRE III Classic preamplifier ($28,041). Amplification was a stunning pair of SW1X MPA V Special power amplifiers ($37,836 each), which drove the Cessaro Opus SE loudspeakers ($65,000/pair).
Racks were Codia Acoustic Design Stage 5000 and Stage 7000 models. Prices vary.
