Decibel+, Neoson, Atlantis Labs, Audiobyte, Sennasound, Trafomatic

Atlantis Lab’s Yusuke Yasuda, and Decibel+’s Gabriel Andrés Toro brought one of the most surprising systems of the show, featuring Neoson tubed amplifiers and Atlantis Lab loudspeakers, both brands manufactured in France.

The system included also a HiFi Rose RS250A streamer ($2650), supplanting a misbehaving Audiobyte SuperHub ($4000). An Audiobyte Super Vox DAC ($4500), and two Neoson tube amplifiers were in use: the 10Wpc Genèse ($7885) and 20Wpc Evolution ($11,828). This front-end drove Atlantis Lab AT18 ($4960/pair) and AT31 ($14,194/pair) bookshelf speakers and AT16 floorstanders ($3217/pair in passive form). Cables were Audience OHNO series, and the rack was a Music Tools ISOshelf. The room was lit in a freakish purple glow that prevented accurate photography, but the sound was stunning. Decibel+ streamed tracks that hit mine and the system’s spot.

John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman’s “My One and Only Love” unfurled with intimacy and resolution that opened new depths of insight into this classic Impulse! recording. A track from Stevie Ray Vaughan was rendered with stunning liquidity, layering, and separation, achieving a palpable sense of aliveness. The sound forced a cascade of adjectives into my notes: resplendent, clean, large, full-bodied, thrilling, deep, gigantic, engaging. One of the best rooms at T.H.E. NY Show, featuring components I’d love to review. Photo, purple light and all, by Yusuke Yasuda.
