YG Acoustics and Supreme Acoustic Systems

YG Acoustics and Supreme Acoustic Systems set up a massive, no-holds-barred system at T.H.E. Show in Southern California. It was certainly one of the show's largest systems—as well as being among the priciest—and it delivered huge sound.

YG Acoustics's Duncan Taylor and Supreme Acoustic Systems's Hiram Toro were on hand to share details. Taylor talked about the room's challenges, including a wall with several large panes of glass. They seemed to have overcome that with heavy curtains and with careful loudspeaker placement.

I had heard the flagship, four-tower YG Acoustics XV 3 Signature speakers ($498,000/pair) at the Florida International Audio Expo, but here the amplification was different here, including the Soulnote P-3 preamplifier ($22,900) and Soulnote M-3X monoblock amplifiers ($48,378/pair)—both prototypes—in place of the Western Electric tubes I heard at the Florida show. Soulnote also supplied a D-3 DAC ($22,900), an X-3 clock generator ($5495), and a Z-3 network transport ($14,900). Another brand featured at the Florida show reappeared here: Taiko. The YG-Supreme system included a Taiko Olympus DAC/streamer ($95,000), Olympus I/O ($32,000), Extreme router ($7500), Extreme switch ($5300), and Extreme DC power distributor ($2700).

All cabling was from AudioQuest. HIFISTAY provided racks, stands, and a performance board from their Mythology lineup.

I listened to just a couple of tracks including "Broken Hearted Road," a 'rockin' blues number from Sonny Landreth's Grant Street, which captured him live at Grant Street Dancehall in Lafayette, Louisiana. The soundstage was full-scale, with Landreth and his wailing guitar at the center. It felt neither heavy nor overblown—not even the bass, which however went deep. That holographic soundstage, together with the natural-sounding crowd noise, created a sense of being there, deep Louisiana in Orange County.
