At High End Munich, the shared booth of Prague-based Remton Audio and Fonolab inevitably caught my eye. Beautifully crafted phono gear always stands out, especially when it reflects deep analog passion.
Remton Audio focuses on hand-built phono stages. The company offers nine products, most of which were on display in Munich. The lineup at the show included a Remton RHA tube headphone amplifier ($2900, all prices approximate when converted from non-US currencies), the 383 tube phono stage ($2900), an additional unnamed tube phono stage, the LCR tube phono stage ($7900, MM/MC), and the new 481 tube phono stage ($4000). The 481 will be released in a limited edition, said Remton's Alexander Remmer.
Fonolab showed four models: the $2100 Qvattvor Pacto True Balanced MC step-up transformer (SUT), the new EQVES 1 Stereo MC SUT ($1000), the Qvattvor 4X4 Dual Mono Stereo MC SUT ($3100), and the Veliferi Modular MM/MC/MI SUT EQ ($3300).
Fonolab's products are packed with premium parts including Neutrik RCA jacks, Tamura transformers, fully balanced circuitry, and LC-OFC wiring.
