The combined talents of Analog Manufaktur Germany (AMG), Dr. Michael Plessmann’s SoundSpace Systems, and Denmark’s Vitus Audio produced a distinctive and sophisticated sound at High End Munich.
The system, presented by AMG USA’s Michael and Silvia Fajen alongside AMG Deutschland’s Julian Lorenzi, centered on the Viella Turbo turntable ($25,500) with its 12JT tonearm and cherry skirt. This analog front end included AMG’s new silver internal wire upgrade for the 12JT tonearm ($1600 for existing arms, or a $1000 upcharge for new ones), the debuting Silverclear XLR tonearm cable ($3200), and a prototype AMG cartridge. The signal fed into another world premiere: the AMG Ventus phono preamplifier ($22,000).
Rounding out the system, a Vitus Audio Reference RI-101 Mk.II integrated amplifier ($20,000) powered SoundSpace Systems’ Robin SE loudspeakers (approx. $64,500/pair). AudioQuest cabling tied it all together, including Angel interconnects ($1200/1m pair) and legacy Obsidian speaker cables.
Designed by AMG’s Julian Lorenzi, the company’s new Ventus phono stage features three inputs and one output (balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA), dual-mono construction in a solid aluminum chassis, and two gain stages. Each input allows fully adjustable gain and loading. Other highlights include a mechanically decoupled PCB, a discrete JFET and MOSFET design with open-loop architecture and zero negative feedback, and RIAA equalization via PPS and PP silver-and-gold capacitors.
The AMG-led system shone with Samara Joy's "Stardust," delivering lovely vocal and instrumental tone, fantastic drive, and uncommon naturalness. This balance of raw power and refinement was also in evidence during the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Scheherazade, which unfolded across a broad, immersive soundstage.
