Are most musicians filmmakers too? Of course the potential exists for a great A/V product, but.....

Let's see, "news" starts off "The record companies have agreed to start a new format..." and I'm supposed to care?? Nope, don't think so.

About time.

I don't care about video. Just give me quality sound. I'd be more interested in being exposed to different kinds of music rather than video.

The rapid arrival a chain of "new format" options appears to be taking a page from the computer industry rapid technology advancement cycle. It seems hardware sales turnover is now the main corporate drive over the initial reason for a new format which was supposed to be high-rez close to analog. Very frustrating.

Glue a CD onto the back of a DVD?

DualDisc does not solve any real problem for me, the audio customer. This format looks like a "good for record companies to make more money by charging higher prices" idea. What would really benefit me as a consumer is lower cost SACD discs. I own over 2000 audio CDs but have stayed away from SACD (my preferred high resolution format) because of the cost. I am also miffed that the record companies offer no replacement program for CD's as some of mine have started to go bad even having been carefully handled and stored. With SACD being even more susceptible to decay vs. CD, I cannot see any real future for the audio world. I am beginning to buy my audio data directly from the artist or recording company so I can get real audio at a reasonable price. I also get access to all sorts of interesting material that never makes to a record company CD. The short of it is that I basically don't care what record companies do anymore. They've fooled me once and it won't happen again. The future of audio will not be available on CD.

Why!?

It is probably going to be the best way to introduce the next generation of consumers to the fact that not only is better sound available, but desirable.

Think I`ll stick with CD & vinyl until they make up their minds which "convenient" format will be the one.

As long as the prices don't increase.

Looks good providing it works well with my existing equipment. Not to crazy about paying $20 to $30 each when my main interest is still the music and not so much the video features.

I have a Columbia 78 from about 1908 that's a demonstration "double-disk" record. The announcer on it says "Music on both sides! Double value for your money plain as daylight!" 100 years later, its time CDs went the same way.
