Celebrity Headphone Deathmatch - Sennheiser adidas

Sennheiser Adidas
I've got to admit being a Sennheiser fanboy. Their HD 650 is one of my all time favorite headphones, and the HD 800 is a technical marvel. I've visited their factory, and toured their R&D facility. Their technical prowess is simply extraordinary. I am in complete agreement with Stefanie Reichert, vice president of strategic marketing for Sennheiser, when she was quoted earlier this years as saying:

"We want to show consumers that the thing they are putting on their head is made by a company that know the technical aspect of all of that. An artist is capable of judging sound but is not capable of manufacturing it and coming up with the engineering."

Indeed! Of course, a shoe company isn't capable either. Fortunately, I don't see Adidas making any claims of tinkering with the sound. The Adidas branding is pretty obviously just an endorsement for style purposes. I reckon it will play better to consumers in Europe than here in the U.S.

Sennheiser Adidas HD 25 Originals ($249 street)
111212_feature_celebrityheadphonedeathmatch_sennheiseradidas_original Like Koss and AKG, Sennheiser has also made cosmetic changes to existing headphones to re-brand them. The Adidas HD 25 Original is a cosmetically altered Sennheiser HD 25-1 II, which is one of, if not the most most popular DJ headphone. The sound is very, very good, as is the isolation, and the split headband will keep the headphones secure on your head during vigorous/ecstatic/spastic activity. Drummers love these headphones.

I highly recommend these headphones --- the un-branded HD 25-1 II will save you some bucks. There are no real celebrity headphone alternatives that are better, though the Marley Exodus and V-Moda V-80 are quite close. You should totally check out this guy's customizing blog if you dig these headphones.

Sennheiser Adidas HD 220 Original ($99)
111212_feature_celebrityheadphonedeathmatch_sennheiseradidas_HD220Unfortunately I haven't been able to get my hands on these, but I can tell you that it looks very similar to the Sennheiser HD 218 ... which is a good little headphone.

Let's taste the Skullcandy ....
