LED ZEPPELIN: III; THE BAND: The Last Waltz; THE BEATLES: The Beatles (aka The White Album).
New music, or a fresh interpretation of an old classic, is what keeps a music lover's life interesting. What three releases have been in heavy rotation for you recently?
VARIOUS: Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the '80s Volume 1.; VARIOUS: Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the '80s Volume 4.; BOB MOULD: Last Dog and Pony Show. Two great compilations from the now venerable 1980's and one very good album from the 1990's
Sorry, I can't pick three: The Borodin Quartet's Shostakovich cycle; Duke Ellington's Symphonic Works, Peress/American Composers Orchestra; Night and Day: The Cole Porter Songbook; Beach Boys Smile bootleg CD; and the Budapest Quartet's Late Beethoven quartets.
Rickie Lee Jones "It's like this" An almost minimalist take on some of her favorite tunes. Show Biz Kids + The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys, are worth the price of the disc. Mike Stern "Play" Backed by an absolute bombastic rhythm section, Mike makes his case for best guitarist on the planet. As Howard Cosell would say..."Anyone who thinks Mike is not the champ should step into the ring with him" Stephane Grappelli "Live At The Blue Note" I was fortunate enough to attend one of his last concerts, and have never heard anyone express themselves through their instrument more than this man. And if dying is a ticket to hear him and Django together...Let me Know when Dr.K is eligible for work release.
