Porcupine Tree: In Absentia. The music on this release is just wonderful, and, like all of the best recordings in my collection, it's a grower.

Rockwise, Counting Crows' Hard Candy is hard to pass up, mainly because it was so underrated by critics and public alike. Also, new albums by Chuck Prophet and Eileen Rose and Paul Westerberg's glorious hymn to kick-ass rock'n'roll, Mono (yes, recorded in glorious mono—although digitally!). The accompanying stereo release was awful, however. Ryan Adams' Demolition keeps getting better and better and You Am I's Dress Me Slowly proves again how truly natural an artist Tim Rogers is. What do I know—I spent most of the time spinning old jazz LPs!

Stone Sour's eponymous release. A return to real rock!

There have been a lot of great music releases this year. Dishwalla's Opaline, John Mayer's Room for Squares, and James Taylor's October Road are three of my favorites for this year.

Diana Krall's Live In Paris! As much as I like her studio recordings, there's more emotion live. It's an excellent recording, maybe not "audiophile," but whatever.

Telarc's Sibelius 2nd symphony, conducted by Jarvi (SACD version). This disc has an unbelievable performance coupled to the best sonics Telarc has put out to date. Bravo Michael Bishop!

Well, here is a few. Brad Mehdlau's Largo: for being fresh, ignoring artificial bounderies btw rock/pop/jazz w/o becoming "fusion:....Audioslave's debut for giving rock something to look foward to, System of Down's Toxicity (was this last yr) for making contempory thrash-heavy metal actually enjoyable, Norah Jones debut, hoping she doesn't become like Diana Krall and lose her artistry for dollars & glamor

For me as a Beatles fan it had to be George Harrison's "Brainwashed".
