A few cocktails, my sweetie, Miles Dewey Davis and the AC not mucking up its phase angle. Yeah, now I'm almost there. I want my SACD NOW!

Supper is over, the kids have done their home work and are watching tv. Now's my time to close the door to my listening room and enjoy my favorite time of day. It might only be for two or three tunes during the week, but on weekends, there is no time limit.

Ideal listening time: When you are tired and relaxed and no one else in the house is awake; it is about 3:00am and the ambient noise is very low; and the hi-fi has been on for at least a day. Oh boy, does the magic happen then! :)

During the full moon around midnight. It gets mighty crazy with the blue paint slopped all over everything.

I LIVE CLOSE TO SEVERAL MOTOROLA AND INTEL PLANTS AND SOME SMALL CHIP MAKERS AND THEY ARE ABLE TO MAKE OUR AC VERY NOISY DURING THE DAY HOURS.

All of the above! The time of day (and day of the week—ie weekends) affects the choice of musical type more than the ultimate enjoyment level.

I can't explain why, it just does.

When my wife is out of the house and I can crank it!

In Ontario, CANADA, eh, the Hydro Supply is up and down like a YO-YO. Brownouts and polarity flips change the sound. Thats why line conditioners make a big difference here.

It all depends on the type of music. I seem to be much more relaxed at around 10:00 or 11:00pm. I prefer something more soothing in the late evening, and a little more upbeat earlier in the day.

I listen in the evening, for the most part—or first thing in the morning, when I'm fresh, as well. But since I live in Hong Kong, next to am a major highway, the evening is the time when the roar subsides and I can be more focused on what I'm hearing.

Late Evening is when I am through with the days activities and can find the time to relax and enjoy the system.

I especially enjoy high volumes, but I live in a dorm . . . damn. The weekends are great, though!

Late evenings 'til around 1:00 or 2:00am is the best time, I think. The day is over, your mind is relaxed, and outside noises are at a minimum. The music just flows toward you, and takes you away with no interruptions :-)

Electricity cleans up its face, and music shines best, in the late darkness of night.

Around 9 to 9:30 PM I have relaxed and unwound enough to enjoy some good sounds.

I work during the day and music helps me to relax after a long day at the office.

Since I work 2nd shift, the best time for me is mid morning—before I go to work. I also like to listen when I get home, but since I have neighbors I must keep the level down, which kinda sucks. Now all I need is a nice SET amp to make night listening even better!

Evening to late-evening tends to be when I can sit down, relax, tune out thoughts of the day, and listen to whatever music soothes me.

I'm lucky enough to live far away from electrical pollution, so the AC is almost always of similar quality. Furthermore, my more-susceptible sources are fed with a PS300. So, if I generally prefer the sound late in the evening, I guess it's because I'm more relaxed and receptive than during the day. Sundays are also very good for long listening sessions, especially when it's raining . . .

that's when the power seems good especialy on Sunday

My ears just seem more sensative early in the morning.

For some reason, when it's late in the evening, it seems that I get a lot more detail from my system. Maybe it's the lower ambient noise, or maybe it's because there is less fluctuation or noise on the power lines. It just sounds better late in the evening or early in the morning.

I like to listen when I think no one else can be listening. It seems more holy that way. Also, I listen while I sleep, so that the music can seep way down into my deepest consciousness, making me a better person when I awake.

Arek's picture

odd, but even on a dedicated line the sound seems to come thru cleaner.

It's no longer an issue for me. Having purchased and installed a PS Audio Power Plant P600, musical enjoyment is possible

Kids in bed, fire burning, glass of wine to hand, and Bill Evans playing. It doesn't get any better.
