A few cocktails, my sweetie, Miles Dewey Davis and the AC not mucking up its phase angle. Yeah, now I'm almost there. I want my SACD NOW!
Have you ever noticed a time of day when your musical enjoyment seems to be consistently at its peak?
Supper is over, the kids have done their home work and are watching tv. Now's my time to close the door to my listening room and enjoy my favorite time of day. It might only be for two or three tunes during the week, but on weekends, there is no time limit.
Ideal listening time: When you are tired and relaxed and no one else in the house is awake; it is about 3:00am and the ambient noise is very low; and the hi-fi has been on for at least a day. Oh boy, does the magic happen then! :)
I listen in the evening, for the most partor first thing in the morning, when I'm fresh, as well. But since I live in Hong Kong, next to am a major highway, the evening is the time when the roar subsides and I can be more focused on what I'm hearing.
Since I work 2nd shift, the best time for me is mid morningbefore I go to work. I also like to listen when I get home, but since I have neighbors I must keep the level down, which kinda sucks. Now all I need is a nice SET amp to make night listening even better!
I'm lucky enough to live far away from electrical pollution, so the AC is almost always of similar quality. Furthermore, my more-susceptible sources are fed with a PS300. So, if I generally prefer the sound late in the evening, I guess it's because I'm more relaxed and receptive than during the day. Sundays are also very good for long listening sessions, especially when it's raining . . .
For some reason, when it's late in the evening, it seems that I get a lot more detail from my system. Maybe it's the lower ambient noise, or maybe it's because there is less fluctuation or noise on the power lines. It just sounds better late in the evening or early in the morning.
