Record Store Day 2010

You know what tomorrow is? Record Store Day! It’s not that guys like you and me need a special reason to go to the record store and buy a bunch of vinyl, but it’s nice to have it anyway. You’ll find me at my local shop, Tunes, in Hoboken, by no later than 10am, waiting for the doors to open. Last year, I showed up just 30 minutes after they had opened, only to find that most of the coolest stuff had already sold out. Not this year. This year, I’ll be the one that gets all the cool stuff.

Here are a few of the special, limited-edition Record Store Day items that I’ll be searching for:

Sonic Youth: Confusion is Sex and EVOL reissues from ORG, the former on white and the latter on pink vinyl. These are must-haves, and I will have them, one way or another. Chances are good that there’ll be copies at Tunes, since Hoboken is a home base for the band.

Beach House: “Zebra” 12-inch single

Coco Rosie: “Lemonade” b/w “Surfer Girl” 7-inch

John Fahey: The Yellow Princess. Whoa, Vanguard celebrates their 60th anniversary and comes up big with this reissue, featuring original album art and liner notes. Limited to just 500 copies. Yikes!

Let’s Wrestle/Love Language split 7-inch. Hot girls told me about these bands. Good and good.

Mississippi John Hurt: Today. Vanguard again.

Rolling Stones: 7-inch single featuring a previously unreleased track from the upcoming, expanded Exile sessions. Yow.

Jimi Hendrix: Live at Clark University colored vinyl 12-inch

See the complete list of Record Store Day releases here. And I’m sure there’ll be some surprises, too. So, support your local record store and feed your soul. Have a great Record Store Day.
