This is my room. The rest of the house is run by my wife and two daughters.
Audiophile systems are made to fit just about any room, big or small. How large is your primary listening space?
The room is 294 sq. ft. with a small foyer attached off the corner of one of the short sides. That small extra space throws off the symmetry enough that my setup must occupy the opposite third of the main room. Ah, for a quadrangle in three dimensions with proportions like Symphony Hall.
For a small, squarish room (12x12.5), my "Florida" room works very well sonically. I atrribute that to the fact there are jalousie windows on three sides and a double door on the fourth. The windows seem to absorb a lot of bass frequencies. I have a little bit of ringing in the highs, but overall the room is fine.
I believe that not only the size but the shape and the materials used to build the floor and walls are also very important. I had a room the same size as my current one and my Amati speakers sounded wonderful there.
