This is my room. The rest of the house is run by my wife and two daughters.

It is not always about the size.

Too small

The biggest weakness of my sytem is the room it sits in. It's small, awkward, and has too many boommobiles passing outside

I wish I had a 600 sq. ft. cavern! Mine's 177 sq. ft.

My room's 280 sq. ft., and I use Thiel CS6 speakers on the long wall (21.5'). My ceiling is 8' high, and I can never tame the highs.

The best upgrade I ever did was finding a listening room that was 27' x 17' x 13' (I used to have 8' x 10' x 9'). There's even a house that came with it

I use the master bedroom as my listening room to minimize chances for disturbing others in the house and neighbors. Using the bedroom also gives me the freedom to optimize equipment placement for sound.

I need more space!

The room is 294 sq. ft. with a small foyer attached off the corner of one of the short sides. That small extra space throws off the symmetry enough that my setup must occupy the opposite third of the main room. Ah, for a quadrangle in three dimensions with proportions like Symphony Hall.

Err, shouldn't this survey be in *cubic* *metres* ? ;)

For a small, squarish room (12x12.5), my "Florida" room works very well sonically. I atrribute that to the fact there are jalousie windows on three sides and a double door on the fourth. The windows seem to absorb a lot of bass frequencies. I have a little bit of ringing in the highs, but overall the room is fine.

I have several systems in severl rooms, all appropriate to room size.

I believe that not only the size but the shape and the materials used to build the floor and walls are also very important. I had a room the same size as my current one and my Amati speakers sounded wonderful there. The walls were thick brick and mortar (about 2' thick), with a marble floor, unparallel walls (six walls without a single 90

Square feet apply to buying carpeting. Air, which transmits sounds, is always in cubic feet. The question ignores ceiling height (flat or sloped).

Believe me a 12' X 16' living room is no impediment to great stereo sound!

I have a dedicated music and home theater room all in one...the room is shoebox shaped 13x20, with 9' ceilings....

When we bought the house that my wife insisted on, my condition was that I got to put my stereo in the great room (29' x 27' x 11'). You may have heard the expression, "you ain't heard nothing yet"—I now have a pretty good idea what that means.

8 ft. ceiling.

Being single I can structure a biggish open plan environment specifically for my system...for now!

Derek's picture

i wish it were larger, but then again, considering real estate prices in the SF Bay Area, i should be more than happy to have a dedicated audio room, no matter how small it is.

My 430 sq. ft. room is quite comfortable indeed. The ceiling is a bit low, but listening sessions are always enjoyable!

It's like headphones - but I can use it 24/7.

Ah, The room? I feel as if my equipment is better than my room. I mean that I don't believe upgrades in components are going to give me the improvements that attention to the room itself will afford.

It's my small home office.
