I reviewed the Audio Note TT-2 turntable for Analog Planet, and room 485 held the Audio Note TT-3 with PSU 3 and Arm Three ($18,997) mounted with a IO1 MC cartridge ($5028). I reviewed the majestic Audio Note Meishu Tonmeister Phono integrated amplifier for Stereophile; Gould played its upscale sibling, the Meishu Phono Konzertmeister ($65,000). And wouldn’t you know it, Gould and Unda played the AN-E/SPx Ltd. Field Coil Speakers ($65,000)/pair), the very product I’m currently reviewing.
Also present and accounted for, the Audio Note AN-S4 step-up transformer (7542.72) and Audio Note CDT 4 CD Player ($21,119).
I’ve reported from prior shows that Audio Note UK provides a sonic oasis, a balm to the senses when high-energy show vibes lay me low. 485 was no exception.
A reissue (Tone Poet? Music Matters? Analogue Productions?) of trumpeter Lee Morgan’s Candy played with punch, purity, and hardcore jazz drive. Piano crackled with live feel, and Philly Joe Jones's drumming blew me away with frenetic Philly energy.
Slipping Duke Ellington and Johnny Hodges Back to Back on the TT-3 also had me dancing in my head, with immersive acoustic bass, sweet-toned but humorous alto sax, and an atmospheric soundstage that fit the perfect Florida weather to a T.
