An international affair, room 419 held a Serbian made Soulines TT42 turntable ($14,500, tonearm and cart not included), Norwegian Electrocompaniet ECP 2 MkII phono stage ($2900), Electrocompaniet ECM 1 MKII High End DAC and streamer ($5700), Electrocompaniet EMC 1 MKV Reference CD player ($6800), Electrocompaniet EC 4.8 MKII Reference preamplifier ($4900), and an Electrocompaniet AW 800 M Nemo 2 stereo power amp ($22,500). Speakers were the French-made standmount Triangle 40th Anniversary Magellan Duettos ($7000/pair) and the active Capellas ($3000/pair). Cabling throughout the system was by Nordost.
I was taken by the Soulines/Electrocompaniet/Triangle system spinning Totally Mild’s Her, a mellow yet hypnotic album full of eerily tumescent synths and the singer’s robotic yet incandescent vocal and menacing background vocals.
