Bill Voss of Technics was tardy to his Alma/Technics room at Capital Audiofest 2024, so Stereophile managing editor Mark Henninger and I sidled in, invited show attendees, and spun some discs. By the time Bill arrived we had a small party going.
As usual, Bill had a crate of choice vinyl. We grooved to an OG Frampton's Camel, swung our limbs to alto saxophonist Art Pepper's Meets the Rhythm Section, and spun some sweaty nineties twelve-inchers. Bill arrived with coffee and donuts, none the wiser.
Mark made a video with Bill presenting Technics’ new SL-1300G turntable ($3299), which lacks the usual Technics DJ options, looking more buttoned-up audiophile proper to moi.
Also in the room, a Hana Umami Red MC cartridge ($3950), sweet Accuphase E-280 Integrated Amplifier ($6995; $1275/phono module; $1475/DAC module), Innuos Zen Mini with LPSU Music Server ($2898), Amphion Argon 7LS loudspeakers ($7000/pair), Kubula-Sosna cables (“ask”), a GigaWatt PF-2 power strip, and Nemesis Acoustic Panels ($799/each.)
Bill separately demoed the new Technics SC CX700 Wireless Speakers, check out the video.
Bill Voss is the hardest working man in the audio biz with an excellent memory. Somehow, he always makes it look easy.
