Following Buddha's prompt on the "Raising Sand" thread and struts' enthusiasm for the re-issue of Steve McQueen, I thought I would start a best of the year thread. If there are enough responses I will collate a chart. Suggest simple rules. List a top 5 from 1 to 5 including re-mixes, re-issues etc. In the chart I will award 5 points for a 1st position, 4 for 2nd and so on.
So to get the ball rolling, here is my to 5.
it seems rather obvious that as much as the reviewer wanted to give a rave review to this unit he had to dance around issues of sound quality and price vs performance. ja's measurements left little doubt that something was amiss. whether potential customers like mcintosh products or not based on sound and style is one thing but one thing they can't argue about is mc's track record for reliabilty and service.
Could someone explain to me in layman's terms why it is that PCM streams going over the USB exhibit a much greater amount of jitter than when they're going over the coax interface?
It seems to me that USB already has clocking and error correction built-in as part of its spec. So, the USB should exhibit practically no jitter at all. Am I missing something?
Thanks
