Do cables get old?

Forums

I am using a pair of Audioquest type 4 cables, which I bought in 1993. Is there any reason to think they have deteriorated in any way over the years? Are the "type 4" cables Audioquest sells today the same as the type 4 from 15 years ago?

Thanks for any advice.

Connections, RCA vs XLR? what to get? brands

The good news is that my system is on its way from various parts of the world - sonus faber speakers, bel canto pre-amp + amps, bel canto cd player, wadia i170.

The bad news is that I have no idea what cables to get (brands as well as what cables i actually need), how many, how much is usually spent on cables, rca vs xlr, etc. Any suggestions based on the above set-up?

Thanks.

I have enough money in the budget to try one more pair of speakers before calling the whole thing done for another twenty years. Emphasis is on quick, snappy, detail-oriented sound with excellent image, but still silky enough through the mid and treble so as not to overwhelm my slap-happy room. Power is McCormack DNA-HT5, pre is McCormack MAP-1, interconnects by Blue Jeans, power and speaker cables by Element.

How good is the squeezebox DAC?

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a way to transmit my music from my laptop to my stereo system. As far as I know, there are few choices in my budget ($300 at most):

- Buy a Squeezebox, and use its analog outputs directly.
- Buy an Airport Express, and buy a external DAC for around $200.
- Buy an Airport Express, and wait a few months until I have enough money to buy a better external DAC.

I appreciate any thoughts on these three options, and also any new products I might not know of.

Thanks!!
