Art D and B.O.C.

Hey why does old Art D think BOC is metal? Sure they inspired some metal acts but the music while great is not metal it hard rock. So you say [BOC partly redeemed this genre]I asume you mean metal not hard rock. Metal gets no respect though it deserves much. So many audiophiles listen to 60-70s rock, little girl with piano or whatever the press praises at the moment. To me over looking metal and its huge contribution to modern music just shows a narrow musical mind set. Sure we all have likes and dislikes but metal never gets anything but slamed by the audio press.

Mellencamp and T Bone Burnett--new hi-def audio

There hasn't been much talk about this. T Bone Burnett produced John Mellencamp's new album. It is worth checking out because of a high definition recording process Burnett calls "Code" which is on the included DVD. This is the first release using what looks like a real improvement and the antithesis of overly compressed CD, MP-3 etc. etc. No one seems to be excited about this, but the DVD sounded damn' good on the home theater. Listen first, even if you don't like Mellencamp (I am usually lukewarm) and then let's discuss.

Help restoring my Rega Planar 2

I have cleaned up my circa 1978 Planar 2, cleaned the stylus, and it still sounds pretty good after all these years. But there are two problems:

Oil, or something, seems to be leaking from the base of the tonearm. I tightened the nut that holds the tonearm in place (which was loose), but I'm not sure what exactly is leaking, or how to fix it. Maybe it's the lifter?
