For the crybabies...I can see the future...

Starting off with this recession is the best thing that could have happened to Obama.

The last downturn was just barely getting rolling when Bush won his first term election. His gloom and doom helped him 'win' that election.

Given the business cycle timing, by the time Obama is up for reelection, the economy will be improved no matter what he does, and he will get credit, winning a second term.

Portable Players - FLAC

I am looking for recommendations for a portable player that will play FLAC files. Rules out Apple products I guess because I would prefer not to have to load any third party software into the player to convert formats. I want something I can load with music every few days for my 2-hour total commute and the occasional road trip. Replay Gain compatibility would be a plus. I don't plan on keeping my entire library on it so a flash based player should work as well as a HDD based one. Thanks for your help.

pairing a preamp/amp with a pro-ject Xpression III

Forums

I have had a pro-ject Xpression III for a while now, and have paired it with some inexpensive amplification for a while, and it's finally time to upgrade. Thinking in the $100-$200 range for the pre and up to $500 or so for the amp (i know, but one step @ a time). It still has the sumiko oyster MM cartridge but I'll be upgrading fairly soon to a MC so I'd like the pre to be switchable between the two. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to get? I'd also like to go all tube, but the pre can do without it. Thanks!

In my rather jaded report from the 1986 Winter CES (Vol.9 No.2), I remarked that there was nothing really new in the field of high-end audio. Well, I was wrong. I overlooked the Acoustic Sciences Corporation Tube Traps, a patented new acoustic device designed by Arthur Noxon (president of ASC). The Traps represent the first practical and effective solution to a perennial audiophile problem: standing waves in the listening room.
