Pink Floyd Echoes. What a great compilation of this group's track record and I believe that some of the tracks have been re-mastered beautifully. Other than that I really can't say anything else spends the time in my player to call best of.

Diana Krall's latest release. It is sexy, well recorded, very nice on the ears, and you will want to play it over and over. My second choice would be Creed's new release, Weathered. It is great to crank up while traveling on the interstate

Ralph Towner's Anthem (ECM) would have to take the cake.

Steve Hackett Live Archive Box Set. If you are a fan you must own this you will not be disappointed.

Britney. Her 3rd album is her best. A more mature and sexy sound, and a funky R&B beat. Thanks to her work with the Neptunes. This "body" of work is Brit's best yet. What a hottie . . .

The Fritz Reiner/RCA Victor re-release of Beethoven's 5th on the JVC XRCD2 label. SACD, DVD-A, and even vinyl need not apply here. These XRCD's are truly the best format available.

There was no CD/LP/SACD/DVD-A release. That's the problem.

Yes. I am a vinylphile. Now that that's out of the way, I will say that my favorite release from 2001 is the Classic Records 45 box set of The Buena Vista Social Club. It doesn't get any better than that, folks. The focus, the lush vocals, the hair-raising instrumentals, and the music, itself, makes one feel as though those wonderful octogenarians are performing in one's own listening room. It's truly an uncanny production that is literally frightening at times. If you don't believe in "the ghosts of Christmas' past," give yourself a revelation into the magic and healing of reproduced sound

REM: Reveal. A beautiful new direction for this (now) trio.

For me, Bill Frisell' Blues Dream just edged Bradford Marsalis' and Orpheus' Creation. I have to say that with a daugther entering her teens, I have been listening to a lot of pop divas.

PJ Harvey: Songs from the City, Songs from the Sea or Open by the Cowboy Junkies. I really can't decide beyond that.

I cast my vote with a sense of nostalgia, and humor; the silver jubilee edition "Newly Remastered" 25th anniverary release of The Cramps Look Mom No Head! Released on "slime green vinyl." Tracks of note: "I wanna get in your pants" and "Bend over,I'll drive."

Laurie Anderson Life on a String. An incredible artist that never fails to surprise and sound fresh. Wonderful music, amazing stories and great sound. Does it get much better?
