Qobuz Connects, Solomon Detaches

From Munich's English Gardens to the Marienplatz, all audiophiles seemed to be talking about Qobuz Connect. I sat down over lunch with David Solomon to get the skinny.

Qobuz Connect, the French music-streaming company's answer to Tidal Connect, is a one-stop solution that lets you manage your music library and control streaming with the Qobuz app. To quote the company's website, "With Qobuz Connect, you can seamlessly switch from your headphones to your hi-fi system, and your music will continue from the exact moment you left off."

"If you use Qobuz Connect, there are no other processes going on to detract from sound quality," Solomon told me. "It makes a huge sonic improvement. Qobuz Connect also allows you to share music with others via Qobuz Club, and to enjoy all the features and magazine content that Qobuz offers."

I soon headed to the Qobuz display in the MOC to take photos of Solomon and some of the people who make Qobuz happen. From the left: Chante Basma, social media and events manager; Minh Tài Lê, business-development assistant; Lena Germann, senior music editor/content manager; David Solomon, hi-rez music evangelist and vice president of business development; Mauna Hennig, customer-success agent; and David Craff, product manager, player and hi-fi partner. At the far right stands show attendee Gerrit Froehlich.

Shortly after High End Munich, Solomon announced on social media that he'd accepted a full-time position with Gramophone of Maryland and World Wide Stereo of Pennsylvania, both high-end audio retailers and installers. With that move, his seven years as Qobuz's full-time hi-rez music evangelist have come to an end—but he'll still represent Qobuz at select events like the UK North West show (June 21–22) and upcoming shows in Toronto and the DC area.
