Focal has just announced the Diva Mezza Utopia, a larger and more powerful sibling to the Diva Utopia active wireless speaker system it debuted last year. The new addition maintains the Diva Utopia form factor and aesthetic while upping the size of the four woofers from 6.5" to 8" and power from 400W to 500W per speaker. The result is a speaker system Focal states will "effortlessly fill" rooms up to 1076 sq ft. in size with sound.
Amplification by Naim powers these active towers. Each driver gets its own class-AB amplifier: 90W for the tweeter, 130W for the midrange, and 280W for the bass. The design employs dual power supplies, one for the bass amp and one for the midrange and tweeter.
Each speaker features four 8" 'W' cone woofers in a side-mounted, force-cancelling configuration, a 6.5" 'W' cone midrange driver, and a 27mm pure Beryllium inverted dome tweeter. The sealed enclosure is constructed from high-density polymer. The redesigned curved heatsink provides the needed thermal dissipation.
Wireless functionality is built on the Pulse Platform and includes ultra-wideband (UWB) transmission at 96kHz/24-bit between speakers. A wired high-resolution connection via RJ45 boosts resolution to 192kHz/24-bit. Streaming support includes Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, UPnP, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, and QQ Music (China). The system integrates with smart home platforms including Control4, Crestron, Savant, and RTI.
Focal's ADAPT technology allows for automatic room calibration based on both room acoustics and listener preferences. System control is available through the Focal & Naim app, voice assistants, or the included Zigbee remote.
Connectivity on the primary speaker includes HDMI eARC, TOSLINK, RCA, USB-A, and Ethernet. Supported audio formats range from MP3 and AAC to 24-bit/384kHz WAV, AIFF, FLAC, and ALAC, with gapless playback and multiroom support across up to 32 Focal & Naim devices.
Diva Mezza Utopia is priced at $69,000 USD and ships in July through Focal Powered by Naim dealers.
