The move is going fairly well. I’m almost completely settled in. I didn’t feel like waiting for the movers, so I just moved myself. Because all Source Interlink employees at 261 Madison Avenue will now be on a single floor, some people lost their private offices. While some are now sharing offices, I took a cubicle. So I no longer have a view onto sunny decks, no redbrick walls, no green trees; the only thing I can see from my seat is a gray cloth partition.
But, as cubicles go, this one is not bad at all. I actually have more desktop space than I did in my nice office. And this cube is on the north side of the building, facing south, so I don’t hear any of the noise from the street below. Nor am I situated near the kitchen or the bathroom or the fax machine, so I’m free from heavy foot traffic. This cube wraps around and opens onto a second identical cube where our new editorial assistant, Ariel Bitran, will sit. Which is good: We’ll be able to work closely. And look at all of this empty wall space! I will be sure to cover it up with some good stuff. Chan is already by my side. Hi, Chan.
It does feel kind of weird to be back in a cube after spending the last four years in a private office. I have to re-learn how to work in a cube. It won’t take long, though.
There. I’m ready.
