Gentlemen, I would like to know how Mikey Fremer can make a comparison between two turntables 6 years apart. Most people cannot remember what they heard 6 hours ago, some can't remember six minutes ago.
Not only is the period of time staggering but his equipment has totally changed. A review of the Continuum with the Rockport present, both armed with the same cartridge and fed into the same phono stage, through the same system, now that would be a review.

Here's a link to a very nice article on the ExtremeTech.com web site about the problems of trying to stream lossless encoded music from one's computer to an A/V system. It's well worth the read.
Someone just gave me a vintage McIntosh C-28 pre/amp!!!!
Was today my lucky day or what? The C-28 is in pristine condition, I would rate it 9/10 cosmetically. It hasn't been used in years so sonically I don't know yet. My stereo guru said it was & still is a stellar pre-amp. I'm taking it to him for the once over. I'll definitely hook it up in my system to see how it sounds. Then I'll decide whether or not to sell it. Any of you guys have any comments about this particular pre-amp? I called McIntosh w/ the serial # & they said it was produced in the mid to late seventies. From what I can gather re-sell can be upwards of $ 800.
Amp pricing & diminishing returns / what's your take?
I've been looking at a few amps for my system to run in both HT & 2 channel listening. My source is a Consonance Droplet5.0 tube output player, NAD T773 receiver as pre/pro, AADaudio 2001 monitors (8ohm, 86db sensitivity) The amps in question are: Mac MC252, Bryston 4BSST, NuForce ref 9, Rotel RB1090. Prices new are: Mac-$3800, Bry-$2800, NuForce-$2500, Rot-$1800. As you can see that's a pretty big pricing gap. My question is about the sonic qualities between them & if some really warrant the extra coin? For example the diff in price between the Mac & Rot is $2000.
