Cartridge Selection and Setup

Hi,
I recently picked up a Stanton STR8-30 Turntable which I believe is more of a DJ table than an audiophile table, but since this table used fit into what I had for funds at the time.... it will do until I can save up and upggrade.

I am wondering several things as to the proper selection of a cartridge and the alignment of the cartridge as it sits on the headshell.

How about that single malt?

Over the years, Sam Tellig's reviews have, more than once, led me to audition equipment which I later bought and loved. There's lots of overlap in our musical tastes and equipment preferences. It seems only yesterday that I put the Unico SE on my "good stuff" list, largely based on the amp's characteristics, Sam's wildly enthusiastic evaluation, and his willingness to nominate it for "Component of the Year".

St. Patrick's Day tunes...

Hola,

Trying some different corned beef recipes today and playing tunes.

Wondered what types of things y'all might be spinning today.

We went with some Pogues, Flogging Molly, Chieftans (with and without Van Morrison,) and a little Van on his own.

This weekend Flogging Molly (is that an onanistic reference?) hits town a day late. They put on a good live show if you don't mind a bunch of large white guys moshing like it's an old House of Pain show.

It was my hunt for new and interesting-looking turntables at the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show that introduced me to the loudspeakers from DeVore Fidelity. In the Glass Amplifier room I spied a Teres turntable with a Darth Vader-ish look and sat down to listen. From a pair of nondescript, two-way, floorstanding speakers so small they were almost lost in the room, came surprisingly present, full-bodied, and notably coherent music. Their sound so far exceeded my low expectations that I exclaimed, "What are those?! Whoever designed them sure knows what he's doing!"
