Carla Bley's Lost Chords

Carla Bley's Lost Chords

It’s a mystery how Carla Bley’s new CD, The Lost Chords Find Paolo Fresu (ECM), achieves its greatness. Even the word seems too freighted for music so minimal. A scale segues into a simple melody, followed by a straight harmony, some swishes on snare and hi-hat, a bass line that follows an equally simple counterpoint. Yet some quirky gravity holds these strands in magical equipoise, like a Calder mobile.

My New Lab

Hi Guys - Just to prove I dont have hair like Beetlejuice

As promised, I'm putting my new lab together -- So ELK can have me run tests on fuses and inductive loads...well ....maybe

My intention is to finish the design ideas and development of two mono-blocs I have had thrashing around in my noodle for some time now.

Volume Control for Music Server?

Hey everyone
Yesterday I purchased a pair of 683 b&w speakers and a Decco (DAC + Integrated Amp)and am now using iTunes to play my music. My question is, how should I be controlling the volume in my system? That is, should I be using the PC volume, or the volume on the Decco? I've read various comments about turning the volume on the PC all the way up, turning EQ off, etc. What's the correct way, and is there better software I should be using to play my music (i.e. something other than iTunes)?

Thanks!

dear audiophiles
in the next few month i shall design a new loudspeaker as my final project in product design grad school.

i tern to you for advice on the subject, i am looking to do some thing spectacular and might have the tech back of morel behind me.

i will appreciate any comments on the subject as to what's missing in the market?, what needs to be improved? put emphasis on or off, WHAT MAKES YOU CRAVE for a specific loudspeaker more then another.

Talon - Falcon Speaker

Forums

Has anyone heard these before? I'm just curious about them; they are acoustic suspension speakers, with a 1.5" Ceramic tweeter, and a 10" bass driver.
All of the speakers I've been looking at are bass reflex, so I'm not really sure how the A.S. design speakers would compare? Any thoughts?
My goal is to buy a full range speaker, for 2 channel music, and not need a sub. I listen primarily to classic/hard rock, blues rock,etc....

Prior to coming accross the Talon Falcon, my first choice was the Canton, Ergo 609DC.

Preamp or Integrated?

Forums

My system consists of an old dbx DX5 cd player (okay, really old) running straight into a B&K ST140 power amp, which in turn drives Dahlquist DQ8s via biwired Kimber cable (don't recall the type). Because the DX5 has variable outputs, I've been able to get away without a preamp for some time now, however, everything I read seems to say that I'm probably not getting the best sound this way. My question: Do I pick up an integrated amp and use it with the B&K to bi-amp the speakers (integrated for high frequencies, B&K for low) or just go with a preamp?
