Tim de Paravicini: King of Tubes Page 3

Tim de Paravicini: King of Tubes Page 3

How many hi-fi professionals can say that they've designed at least one of every part of a complete recording system, from microphones to tape recorders to vinyl-disc-cutting electronics? Probably only Tim de Paravicini (footnote 1). Best known to audiophiles for his extraordinarily durable EAR valve amplifiers, Tim is also an electronics guru to the professional recording world. His global reputation today is based on more than four decades of making things better, building equipment that stands the test of time.

AD is WRONG

At least he writes so I go and read it again, and another time. But his beliefs are wrong. The entire idea of high end hi fi, IS to bring it home. His listening to clock radio amplifiers, with names that may make him think they have magic ckts? I am now listening at very low vol levels, with teh 4800 W amps, ya know the pre amp has a volume control (mine has bal control also, he needs to buy the good stuff ) Even 4800 W ability helps when listening at low levels, the amps control, the bass detail is STILL there at low levels, 6:30 AM levels.

Objective measurements of power cords...is this a sign of the Hi Fi apocalypse?

Forums

Hola,

I saw this posted at another Hi Fi site and felt compelled to steal the link and share it here.

This was not found by me.

It should add some fuel to the discussion about power cords.

Critiques?

Maria Schneider at the Jazz Standard

Maria Schneider at the Jazz Standard

I saw Maria Schneider’s Jazz Orchestra at the Jazz Standard last night, for at least the 12th time in as many years, and they—both she and the band—get more and more dazzling with each visit. As I noted a couple months back, with the release of her latest CD</A>, Sky Blue (available only from ArtistShare.com or MariaSchneider.com), Schneider’s compositions have grown both denser and airier—rich harmonies stacked on brisk, flowing melodies, swaying to rhythms at once buoyant, complex, and danceable. Her ballads are sweet and lovely without oozing into sentimentality. Her upbeat numbers are snappy without drifting into banality. In recent years, she’s been exploring Latin rhythms and styles—in Saturday night’s early set, she played compositions inspired by Brazil, Spain, and Peru, and it seemed absolutely authentic. Her band—17 members, many of whom have played with her for over 15 years—is drum-tight, and, perhaps because of this, the soloists soar more lyrically to more adventurous heights.

Triangle Celius esw

Hi,

I am not so sure where to post my questions. But here goes, might be directly appropriate for ST .
I can't help but noticed that Triangle is not listing the Celius esw on its website anymore. As I don't read French in its forums, has Triangle stopped manufacturing this wonderful pair of speakers? If so, for what reasons?

I am an owner.

Should I be worried?

Thanks.
Dean

The November issue is one of the best you've done...

...and I say that even though I started the topic on here re the Holt interview. It made me think, even if I didn't agree with all of it.

A particular standout was Art Dudley's review of the XT-100 amp.

In fact, it's because of Art's writing that I subscribe to Stereophile. I subscribed previously to the late, lamented (though not by HIM, I'm sure!) Listener magazine.

Other standouts were the articles about Tim de Paravicini, the Brilliant Classics CDs, and Bettye LaVette.
