Just read this article. Comes with an mp3 file of a short clip of a singer crooning "Au Claire de lune"... and the recording is believed to be from... 1860!!! Predates Edison's invention by like 20 years.

Last Saturday my Pioneer Elite DV-58V universal player arrived after receiving full-boat mods from Ric Schultz. You can see Ric's offerings at:

It's about 100-hours into burn-in, so I'm waiting until next weekend to record in-depth findings. Here's a preview; it blows away the stock Oppo 981HD.
I'll try to get a review out by early next week.

Well, folks, I thought I'd post an update for those of you who have been following my analog journey from the beginning.
I was honest with my financial situation, and it didn't look like a P3-24 was going to happen anytime in the foreseeable future. There was a used Planar 3 down at the store, and I jumped on it today. When the Sumiko Black Pearl comes in, I'll go audition the table and take it home. I'm pretty excited to have an analog source, happy to be done saving, and pleased to have freed up some capital (since my total deposit was greater than the value of my purchase).
