Cardboard Queen

Cardboard Queen

In her kittenage, before we adopted her, Bagheera was a deli cat. I don't want to psychoanalyze an animal with a brain the size of a walnut, but Bagheera loves cardboard boxes. She will lie on them for hours—unless we do something silly like pet her or notice her. Then she'll go sulk in the corner.

A Complete Newcomer asking for advice.

Hello all, Ive got one long or several short questions. Im entirely new to all this fancy stereo stuff. Any way, Ive just bought a Technics SL-1310 for $20, but it has no stylus (sp?) Anyway, Im Looking to purchace a receiver and some speakers which would allow me to truly enjoy my vinyls. Right now Im using some Klipsch computer speakers plugged into a Newmarc portable table, and its just not cutting it. Id be happy to spend $400 on a reveiver and another 400 on speakers But I dont know what I should look for.

A little background story with some embedded questions...

Well...let me preface this by saying that I do not know if I have come to the right forum for my purposes but hope to find some guidance for my ill-educated somewhat spendthrift audio desires...forgive me for the unnecessary length but if you're bored and feeling charitable...continue please...

Any Mark Levinson cartridge owners on this forum?

I have inherited a Mark Levinson cartridge I'm trying to identify. It was described as the Signature cartridge and was a gift from Mark to a friend of his.

It looks like the MLC-1 photos I see at the google cached version of marklev.com. Round, black with a white alignment line on the front. Mark Levinson logo embossed on the bottom. No model number, just the word Japan and the number 0280 (looks like crude handstamp) on the top. Were they all sold without a model number anywhere on the body?

Anyone out there have info on this little curiosity?

The great Eliane Elias put on a quite a show last night in NYC. Touring in support of her new album, Something For You, Eliane Elias Sings and Plays Bill Evans, the pianist, singer and longtime Evans admirer lit up Dizzy's at Jazz at Lincoln Center, which is easily one of the best–sounding rooms for live music that I've ever been in. The food in there is fairly tasty and not wildly overpriced, a total rarity on the New York jazz club scene. And that behind the stage, floor to ceiling glass that adds a Central Park West backdrops to every performance is genuinely divine. Say what you want about Wynton, but the man did make the three JALC venues happen.

Simaudio Moon Evolution Andromeda Reference CD player Measurements

It's easy to be impressed by Simaudio's Moon Evolution Andromeda Reference CD player. Everything about it oozes quality and luxury, from its imposing two-chassis configuration to the multi-component disc clamp of machined aluminum. Even surrounded by my double-decker VTL amps, VPI HR-X turntable, and Ferrari Fly-yellow Wilson Audio Sophia 2 speakers, the Andromeda was usually the first thing guests asked about: "How much does that cost?" The answer is $12,500. The Andromeda should look impressive.
