Also stunning were Furutech's impeccably machined, silver over rhodium AC plugs, which incorporate solid brass ground jumpers. What does that do? "You have to hear it to believe it," said Furutech's PR guy, Jonathan Scull. Okay, we're willing to go that far.

Genesis 60W Tube Amplifier

Genesis 60W Tube Amplifier

In our forthcoming February issue, I review the 5.2 loudspeaker from Genesis Technologies. Like many Arnie Nudell designs, the 5.2 demands a lot of current from the partnering amplifier. (See, for example, my 1… measurements of Arnie's classic IRS Beta design.) I was impressed, therefore, to hear the 5.2s being driven to great effect on a track from singer Jacintha by Genesis' new i60 60Wpc integrated tube amplifier. Made in China, with design input from veteran amplifier maven Bascom King, the i60 uses KT88s and will cost $3495. Rather than show the normal frontal shot of the amp, I photographed the hard-wired circuit, which impressed the heck out of me with its superb craftsmanship.

Olive Introduces New Music Server/WiFi Hub

Olive Introduces New Music Server/WiFi Hub

A product that impressed me last year was OliveMedia Products' Symphony music server. The size and appearance of a conventional CD player, the Symphony incorporates an 80GB hard drive and a WiFi hub so that it can act as a music-file server, all for just $899. I wrote my positive impressions of the Symphony with its digital output driving my high-end rig in our mid-Novemb… eNewsletter, so I checked out Olive at CES. The company was demonstrating the new Opus, which increases the HD size to 400GB and uses a high-end D/A section. The Opus will be available mid-February for $2999.

Sennheiser HD600 cable: Cardas vs. Stefan Art Equinox

I run a pair of HD600s through an Antique Sound Labs DT OTL Mk III headphone amp (tube). I like what I read about the Equinox, but they are listed as "warmer" than the Cardas. Most reviews I see rate the Equinox higher overall. Would the less "warm" Cardas cable be a better match for a tube amp that will already add a bit of warmth? Prices are comparable, so it just comes down to a matter of better match. I don't mind the waiting period on the Equinox cables (if they are a better choice). Unfortunately buying both and doing an a/b test isn't an option.

Steel platter turntable create issues?

Could the steel platter on a TT create hum or noise (or other)issues, possibly associated with a MM cartridge?

I notice that most TT feature aluminum or other nonmagnetic platters, but the Pro-ject Debut III comes with a steel platter.

I am considering the Debut III because it will accomodate my 78 collection as well as my LP's, but I don't want to buy into trouble.

I ran across this issue as I searched the web for info on the Debut III.

Here is the URL to the post that caught my eye.
