Success in the high end audio market, it seems to me, results from specialization - offering a product that results from doing what you do very well. Consumers of high end equipment very rarely put together systems of components from a single manufacturer. Why then, do you suppose, that Musical Fidelity and Marantz, both noted for their electronics, have decided they need to get into the turntable business.
After reading many positive posts on the benefits of the MF X-10v3 tube buffer I went & ordered one from Music Direct. They have a 30 day return policy. I'm having a hard time really noticing any difference in CD playback. Hence the question about the power supply. Is it also worth a try & does it really make a difference in the perfoprmance of the X-10v3 ? My system consists of nothing ultra expensive but to my ears sounds incredible.
Over in the Rock Music section of the forum JoeE started a great list, which I hope will continue to grow, called "20 LP's or CD's you may not have but should" and I promised to get a similar list going over here in the Jazz section. I've reworded it slightly so it's now a catchy SHBMN
abbreviation, okay so it's not DID (Desert Island Discs) or R2D4 (Records To Die For) but at least it's ours and I like it, damn it.
Today's NY Times reports that the magnificent Arthur Lee (Love) has leukemia. A benefit concert to help him meet medical expenses is planned for the Beacon Theater in NYC on June 23rd. Already confirmed performers include Ian Hunter, Yo La Tengo, Nils Lofgren, Garland Jeffreys, and Robert Plant who promises a set of Led Zep favorites. Information at (212) 307-7171 or www.thelovesociety.com (although as of this post the web site was "temporarily unavailable").
