Newbie's budget foray into lo fi

Recently purchased a vintage Pioneer SX-1050 integrated amp (super clean!) from an estate sale for $280, mated it with a pair of jbl L880 speakers from Tweeter (they are closing out their California stores) for $700, and then added a Rega Planar 1 turntable from eBay for $350.

Finished bastardizing with Monster cable from Radio Hack for $30.

Grand total $1360.

I am not including the free Denon DCM 440 (thanks wifey) CD carousel changer that I want to add to my backyard system so I can upgrade.

Made my own 10+ kg brilliant pebble - mass damping to the extreme!

The last time I was in an airplane was when I was 12 years old. It was 12 years ago. Afterwards I got airport security phobia. I'm scared of police too.

Entering Turkey

I was in Turkey, Cesme. I stayed in a cheap hotel and outside the window there were construction workers and lot of dust. The hotel still had a swimming pool and I swimmed for hours.

ITunes Pluses and Minuses?

ITunes Pluses and Minuses?

On May 30, Apple officially launched iTunes Plus, billed as "DRM-free music tracks featuring high-quality 256kbps AAC encoding for audio quality virtually indistinguishable from the original recordings." The initial material available from the iTunes Plus section of the iTunes Media Store is, for the moment, limited to EMI artists, although other labels have announced pending deals with Apple. The "improved" songs sell for $1.29 rather than the standard 99¢.

Last Fall, without any thought, I purchased a Numark TT200 turntable to play my long unused collection of LPs. Too bad!.. but at least I am back to a hobby I thoroughly enjoy, without wasting too much coin. Stereophile and Absolute Sound show possibilities limited only by my wallet. I decided to move slowly and learn. I refurbished my 28 year old MA 6100 integrated amp, added a Cambridge Audio Azur 640 v. 2 CD player and a pair of Monitor Audio RS6 speakers. Not bad, but a budget system to be sure.
