Linn Keel

Thank you for the clearest description I have ead of the sonic benefits of the Linn SE upgrades and the impressive engineering that went into the Keel.

Could you please confirm that even with the improvements the LP12 still remains a Class B recommended component as per the October list?

Thanks

Jeremy

Regarding that Radiohead thing that everyone's talking about, which strikes me as being a whole lot like that Magnatune thing we covered a couple of years back, I refer all dear readers to my brother, <a href="http://themultipurposesolution.blogspot.com/2007/10/they-should-just-ge… Teacher.

Recorded-Music Listening Room for Liberal-Arts College: Speaker Choices

Greetings.

An lifelong audiophile and music lover who teaches at a liberal arts college is trying to put together a recorded-music listening room so students can hear great music on something other than earbuds.

The listening room will have LP playback.

The room is being designed by an architect, with acoustical consultation from Rives Audio.

The room is to be about 20 x 35 feet with a ceiling height of about 10 feet. Obviously, these dimensions will be fine-tuned.

Steely Dan’s Aja isn’t exactly jazz, but given (a) the presence of such jazz luminaries as Wayne Shorter and Victor Feldman, (b) the jazz sensibility of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, (c) my blogger’s prerogative to step outside genres once in a while, and (d) the fact that my host, Stereophile, is, after all, an audiophile magazine, I feel entitled to mention—and wholeheartedly recommend—Cisco Music's LP

DIY vs Market vs Common sense stands?

Forums

Okay, I have rough handle on several high end speakers and can almost understand all the hype...they make better seven or eight times out of ten, regardless of how good you think you are, (unless you are super good) us home grown folks just do not have the CNC cutting tachniques...however...what about stands???

Forget the technicalities for the meantime and just concentrate on the top five materials please. I am off and running with dozens because I grudge the big bucks for basic welded frames and brand name metal tubes...any inputs folks:

Headliners Whose Bands Disappoint

There are some performers who are clearly great yet whose records, and often live performances, are often disappointing because their back-up bands are not at the same artistic level.

Here's a list of 10 artists whom I love, but have to admit, often disappoint:

Sonny Rollins-Jumped the shark when the electric bass came in.

B.B. King-World's greatest bluesman. Not the world's greatest band.

Johnny Winter-Perfunctory bass/drum background with his early trio. Things improve when Rick Derringer joins the band.
