You've seen the ads from YG Acoustics: "The best loudspeaker on Earth. Period." It sounds arrogant. But come on—high-end audio has never been a field of shrinking violets. When Ivor Tiefenbrun of Linn announced that the turntable, not the cartridge or loudspeakers, dictated the sound quality of an audio system, that was a man convinced that he was right and taking on the world. And was Krell's Dan D'Agostino any less arrogant when, in 1980, he introduced the KSA-100 power amplifier? In a world where small size and high wattage were the norms, didn't it take a pair of big brass 'uns to bring out a honkin' huge slab of metal that put out only 100Wpc?

Just Shoot Me

Just Shoot Me

As an audiophile, one of my core beliefs has always been that, once they have heard better sounding music, everybody would want it. That's how it worked with me: My friend Bill sat me down in front of his Quad '57s and cued David Bowie's Heroes on the turntable and once I heard all of those new sounds coming out of my beloved old LP, I was a changed man.

Headphones vs. noise isolating earphones.

I have always been a loud speaker listener in the past.
Bought a pair of Shure in ear earphones for aircraft use.
At work I have an old pair of RS Optimus headphones. Brought in my Shure earphones to compare. The mids and highs were so much better with the Shures but there was no bass at all. Is this typical?

Off center imagery

Hi

No matter what i try with equipment i cannot seem to get away from a stereo imagery that is left biased.

Ive tried all sorts of equipment including cables and speakers. The issue is to do with the acoustics of the speaker locations. My problem is that its not that easy to relocate everything.

Is there any tricks or things that i can look for to correct this imbalance ? i dont have balance controls on my amp so its not that easy.

Thanks

Alan

peachtree decco anyone? or something like it.

I am shopping around for a versatile system to run my laptop, cd collection (on my oppo), and records (on my rega p1). I am on a tight budget looking to spend under 1500. I was looking at the Nuforce Icon and maybe pairing it up with some paradigm atoms v.5s but want to be able to run my Rega p1 turntable.

A Tale of Two Racks

A Tale of Two Racks

Just to be clear: I never felt imprisoned, or controlled, by my television. We had enjoyed a harmless, casual relationship. My television never told me what to do, never told me who to associate with; my television never judged me, never questioned my motives; my television gave me my space when I needed it. It had been a good television, for the most part. Sure, sometimes it could be obtuse or aloof with its poor reception; sometimes it seemed like it didn't want me to watch the Mets game on Saturday afternoons. But, all in all, I liked television. I still do. It's just that I like my turntable more.
