Shadows in Daylight

Shadows in Daylight

Although it was a really lovely autumn Sunday with soft blue skies, abundant sunshine, and a crisp breeze, I was still feeling rather worn out from shipping our December issue. Instead of finding a place to watch the Giants demolish the Raiders, I decided to stay inside and listen to records. I considered taking notes to accompany each album, but doing so would have felt too much like more work, so I opted to simply listen and deal with the subsequent guilt.

Unbelievable - An inexpensive twenty year old DAC with SUPERB sound

I recently bought a Wadia 170i Ipod transport and then I began to look around for a DAC that would be compatible with the Wadia and not be too costly. Most of the used DACS that I found were WAY too expensive to dedicate to a $300 IPOD transport and I was afraid that I might just have to punt on using my Ipod with "the good stuff"

Hot damn, Mytek has a new DAC(DSD and standard PCM)!!

Need turntable - Systemdek IIX just died

My wife and I were just at an audio dealer yesterday afternoon checking out tuners. But we were only able to convince ourselves to purchase an old Chicago album for 8 bucks. We listened to the album - not their best effort - and just as the last track was finishing, the turntable motor died. At first we thought that it was part of the music, but had to laugh when we discovered it was the turntable. Har Har.

That's just a long winded way of saying we need a new TT. My budget is less than $2000 cartidge not included.

Black Saint, Soul Note, and DIW

Black Saint, Soul Note, and DIW

Watching Bobby Bradford and David Murray on the bandstand together at the Jazz Standard Saturday night (see my last blog entry) inspired me to take another listen to the only CD that paired them together, Death of a Sideman, recorded in 1991 under Murray’s name but featuring nothing but Bradford compositions, eight tracks’ worth.
