Image Concept 200 loudspeaker

I like reviewing loudspeakers. The more you become familiar with the art, the greater the sense of anticipation as you open up a pair of cartons. A visual inspection of the speaker always reveals a challenging mixture of the familiar and the new. The size of the cabinet is always the first clue—has sensitivity been a design priority or was low-frequency extension uppermost in the designer's thoughts? You espy a known drive-unit—has this tweeter's propensity for upper-presence sizzle been tamed? You find a reflex port on the rear panel—has the temptation to go for a "commercial," under-damped bass alignment been successfully resisted? You spot factors which intuitively seem wrong for precise stereo—a wide baffle lacking any kind of absorbent covering for diffraction control; a grille frame which puts acoustic obstacles in the way of the wavefront emerging from the tweeter.

Who the heck finds a double broom invention inspiring!!!!

You would really think this is an April fools prank, but nope and shows some of the utter madness we get here in the UK.
Still cannot believe it is being touted as inspirational.....
Boy And His Broom An Inspiration To Invention
A "Double Broom" created by a five-year-old boy is one of the most ingenious inventions of the last decade, according to the British Library:

John Zorn's Book of Angels

John Zorn's Book of Angels

John Zorn’s rep as the angry bad boy of the downtown avant-garde has always been a bit of a caricature. His music has long stressed wit and beauty as much as squeals and hollers. But in the last few years, he’s tapped into a buoyant, almost gentle lyricism while still sounding distinctively Zorn.

Pre vinyl ritual

Please describe your pre-vinyl ritual. Assume the disc has been vacuum or otherwise cleaned.

I turn everything on, remove and visually check the vinyl. Then I put it on the platter and use a carbon brush. When it is out of storage, the next step is to shoot it with my Milty Zerostat a couple of times. I then use The Disc Doctor Stylus cleaner.

There she is, what do you do?

CD Player help - round 2

Several months ago I posted a question to the group about which CD player I should get. The replies seemed to favor the Sony XA5400. I still haven't pulled the trigger. I guess I have a nagging decision in my mind....go for the Sony or move to a computer based system like a Mac Mini and the Ayre QB-9. So....now for my round 2 question. I'm not sure that I'm ready to jump into the cost of the Mac-Mini plus the Ayre. I'm OK with the price of the Sony but I'm wondering if its beyond the level of my current system.

Making predictions is tough, especially about the future....

OK, it's that time of year!

Three upsets today:

Washington will beat BYU, Oregon State will beat TCU, and Virginia Tech will beat Boise.

There will be no BCS busters sneaking into BCS bowls this year...well, watch Utah.

Happy Football New year to y'all!

I don't know why I like it so much, I don't watch games - they take too long - but I like the fall feeling.

iTunes 10, AE Streaming, and Volume Control Change

Since JA has written expensively about using iTunes and Apple Express for music streaming, I thought it might be useful to point out an apparent change in iTunes 10 that affects streaming.

iTunes 9.x when used for streaming, previously had an option under Preferences/Devices to "Disable Volume control when using remote speakers", which, when checked, allowed a full range signal to be sent to the AE. This was true whether using the AE's digital or analog out (I use digital).
