Man, is Vegas a great city, or what?

We took my youngest out for dinner for his thirteenth birthday. On the way home, we drove into a sobriety-check road block. I pulled up to the officer and he flashed his light into the car to see my wife and two kids, shined the light in my eyes, and said, "Have anything to drink tonight?"

I said, "No, thank you."

He said, "What?"

I said, "No, but thanks."

He said, "Have a nice night," and waved us through.

One of my favorite books this year!! Fantastic Spy page turner..

Think ive mentioned this before but Ordinary Thunderstorms was fantastic. (William Boyd) I will admit that at first I found his fancy UK english off putting and distracting, but I came to love the style (treble for triple, kerb for curb, etc)

and the story is absolutely bulletproof. Just thrilling. Book of the year, baby.

it is about a Climatologist who stumbles into a really messed up situation...

The loudspeaker coming under the microscope this month emanates from north of the border. The Canadian loudspeaker industry has benefited enormously in the last few years from having the measurement, testing, and listening facilities of Canada's National Research Council in Ottawa made available to it on a commercial basis. Unlike the US or even the UK, where a new speaker designer has pretty much to rely on his own resources, having to invent his own test procedure as well as design the product, the Canadian equivalent can have his loudspeaker tested under standard conditions, quickly indicating whether he is on the right track or not. (He still, of course, has to rely on his own talent to get on the right track in the first place or to get back on it if it appears that something is amiss.)
