We're Okay!

Maybe you're asking what I'm doing blogging at 3am? Interesting story, actually.

We went to see Sarah Jones' tour de force Bridge & Tunnel last night, so we got home late (for us) and went to bed happy that we'd seen great theater. We woke up with NY firemen screaming at us to get up and get out—that the house was on fire and they needed to secure the premises.

It seems the semi-detached brownstone next door had caught fire (cigarette, sofa, late-night TV watching gone horribly wrong) and we hadn't heard Brooklyn FD pounding on the door, so they tore the door down to ensure we got out.

The minute we figured out the door was wide open, we went on a cat hunt. Huckleberry was cowering in the bedroom closet and Bagheera was hiding downstairs, so the kitties are safe, as we are. The Brooklyn FD took care of the smolder next door and saved the house next door (and ours by extension). Thanks guys—I could have done without the drama, but you guys came in like gangbusters to save us and we appreciate it.

We're alive and our house is intact. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
