From Japan with Glow: VK Music Presents Sunvalley and Elekit
Victor Kung of VK Music in Canada offers Japanese-made tube amplifier kits that cater to DIY enthusiasts. The amps that VK Music distributes are also available fully assembled—but where’s the fun in that?
At the Florida International Audio Expo, Kung showcased his gear with a VPI turntable and Stenheim speakers. In Chicago, he exhibited solo, but his static display still stood out. VK Music’s products at AXPONA included the Elekit TU-8800 monoblocks (kit $2750/pair, assembled $4500/pair).

Also shown were components from Sunvalley, another Japanese manufacturer VK Music imports and distributes. All Sunvalley amps are point-to-point wired and manufactured in Japan using Hashimoto output transformers. The Sunvalley lineup included an SV-310 line stage (two 310A and one 274B tubes, $3500 assembled); the SV-128II power amplifier (two KT170s, four EF37As, one GZ34 rectifier, $6000 assembled); the SV-1645D SET amplifier (one 12AT7/12AX7, two 12AU7s, two 274Bs, $2750 assembled); the SV-P1616D stereo power amplifier (two KT170s, two 12AT7s, two 12AU7s, $2200 kit, $2750 assembled); and the SV-EQ1616D phono equalizer ($1645 assembled).

All of VK Music’s amps feature a lovely, powder-coated Hammertone finish and compact, space-efficient chassis designs.
