Yamaha protects the brand: Yamaha Electronics Corporation has terminated its business relationships with "several dealers" it charges with distributing its products outside of authorized distribution channels. It has terminated dealers "having more than one violation" and has sent written legal warnings to "a number of first-time offenders identified during recent purchases from unauthorized Internet stores."

Yamaha represents the move as an attempt to guarantee consumers intact products and clean warranties. The company says that when unauthorized dealers attempt to eradicate serial numbers on products sold outside of authorized channels, the components are often damaged. It also observes that products sold by unauthorized dealers are not covered by its warranty.

To prevent this, Yamaha recently established a new branding technology that will enable it to establish the original consignee of all merchandise. Yamaha dealers who would like to learn more about the new system can contact Yamaha at: Yamaha Electronics Corporation, PO Box 6660, Buena Park, CA 90622. Tel: (714) 522-9105; email: infostation@yamaha.com; Web: www.yamaha.com/home.
