Amina Tech Plaster-In-Walls: Amina Technologies Ltd. of Huntingdon, England is introducing its Plaster-In-Wall speakers to the American market. The Plaster-In-Walls employ NXT-patented high-power flat diaphragms to create "undetectable in-wall or in-ceiling speakers." NXT technology is said to offer improved dispersion characteristics over conventional speakers, making location and listening position far more flexible, according to Amina.
Amina Plaster-In-Wall speakers incorporate a specialized strong, lightweight composite material that "vibrates in the same way as natural musical instruments, as with the acoustic guitar, violin or piano." The resulting vibrations "re-create the diffuse source of sound energy that is emitted in a less directional manner and capable of filling a space more evenly than a conventional speaker." NXT has long claimed its technology creates high-definition sound over wide areas, producing surround or stereophonic soundfields independent of ordinary considerations, such as room size, shape, or listening position.
Depending on the model, the Amina Plaster-In-Wall speakers include one to four rare-earth, magnet–based, high-power vibrational excitation drivers. The 8 ohm AI5W, (87dB/W/m) is the top-of-the-line offering; midline is the 4 ohm AI3W (84dB/W/m); entry-level is the 8 ohm AI1W (82dB/W/m). Prices tbd.
All three models are designed to fit within standard 16" center stud construction.
Acoustic Solid: Musical Sounds will distribute the Acoustic Solid line of high-end turntables in North America. Acoustic Solid produces 14 turntables, available from Musical Sounds as complete packages including tonearms and cartridges. Body styles include turntables made with wood veneer, acrylic, and solid aluminum.
Pride of place undoubtedly goes to the string-driven Solid Royal, a complete package, including a tonearm & cartridge, costing $10,000. The Solid Royal is constructed from a solid block of aluminum, machined to a thickness of 70 mm, and weighs 100 lbs. The platter mat is genuine leather.
