Gramophone Dreams #59: the Ojas System, EJ Jordan Marlow loudspeaker EJ Jordan Manufacturer's Comment

EJ Jordan Marlow Manufacturer's Comment

Thanks for the opportunity to reply to John's detailed technical measurements of the Jordan Marlow loudspeakers in the May 2022 issue of Stereophile.

We've aimed for as natural a sound as possible with these loudspeakers so that they will work well with a wide range of music. All loudspeaker design is a balance of compromises, and in our case imaging, speed, and as natural a midrange as possible are high on our list of priorities, reflecting Ted Jordan's own engineering aims with the Eikona driver.

It is possible to add frequency equalization to a crossover-free loudspeaker, and in fact we experimented with this during the development process. Although it was possible to achieve a different balance to the sound, in all cases our listeners preferred the Marlows without any additional components in the signal path.

The 176Hz panel resonance is exactly as intended; the BBC thin-wall technique pushes cabinet wall resonances below 400Hz, where the ear is less susceptible to them. The 1.2kHz side panel is something we hadn't spotted; it will be addressed in current production.

Overall, many thanks to both John and Herb for a very fair assessment of our loudspeakers.—Colin Shelbourn, Managing Director EJ Jordan Limited
