In Simple Black and White
Some things have led us to consider what we want exactly, more or less, I suppose from music. Feel free to substitute "the band," or "art," or even "life," for music. That is:
In the Family
For Christmas, my sister, Nerissa, received a set of Heartbeatshttp://blog.stereophile.com/stephenmejias/heartbeats_by_lady_gaga/">Hea…;, Lady Gaga’s flashy in-ear headphones. Nerissa was overjoyed—even moved to dramatic, rock star poses, sporting her latest fashion accessory—mostly because she loves Lady Gaga. I don’t think she expected the sound quality to have a great impact on her life.
In the Forum: The Problem with Hi-Fi
Forum member “jgrossman” wants to know what’s stopping more people from getting into hi-fi. Is it the high cost of audio components, the hobby’s steep learning curve, the lack of hi-fi dealers, or something else?
Anton argues that audiophiles are the problem. “I have seen the enemy of high end audio,” he writes, “and it is us.”
What do you think? Talk about it in the Forum.
In the Kitchen
In the kitchen, we sat down and took a couple of deep breaths before moving on to the next few steps of the process, which I imagined would be infinitely more dangerous. We set down the damaged drive-unit (seen here) and got to work on its replacement.
In the Morning
The system, as it is right now: Rega P3-24 turntable with Elys 2 cartridge and Boston Audio Design Mat 1, NAD C515 BEE CD player, Sony Playstation 1 CD player, NAD C316 BEE integrated amplifier, Parasound Zphono USB phono preamplifier, PSB Alpha B1 loudspeakers, Kimber Kable PBJ interconnects, Kimber Kable 8VS speaker cables, Furutech eTP-60 power distributor.

In the News: Oswaldsmill Audio & Audioarts
The OMA Imperia loudspeaker at the Oswaldsmill Audio showroom in DUMBO, Brooklyn, NY.
Jonathan Weiss’ fabulous Oswaldsmill Audio Dumbo showroom was featured in a recent episode of “The Blueprint” on Jay-Z’s Life+Times.
Watch the video below. In the Sweet Spot
And, yes, while hanging with Jon and Corrina, we did find time to listen to some music. Here I am, sitting in the sweet spot, in awe of the views (sonic and visual). I don’t think I’ve heard a more thrilling system. Jon’s got the sound optimized for size and impact, with incredibly focused, larger than life images set within a massive soundstage. Transients were startlingly fast and clean. And while I’m not usually too fond of subwoofers, the sound here was completely seamless, the subs adding texture and punch while never intruding upon the musical flow.
