For Christmas, my sister, Nerissa, received a set of
Heartbeats, Lady Gaga’s flashy in-ear headphones. Nerissa was overjoyed—even moved to dramatic, rock star poses, sporting her latest fashion accessory—mostly because she loves Lady Gaga. I don’t think she expected the sound quality to have a great impact on her life.
But yesterday, Nerissa sent me an unusual e-mail. She wrote:
I was just listening to a favorite Lisa Loeb song of mine from her album Cake & Pie, a song that I've probably listened to a good trillion times since I got the CD eight years ago. And thanks to my Heartbeats, I realized that Lisa is not saying that she "walked away to get whizzed up." Of course she wouldn't say that. It makes no sense! But I just went along with it all these years. She in actuality walked away to get WISDOM! Duh. I'm hearing all sorts of things I never heard before through those pretty little headphones. Just when I thought I couldn't love Lady Gaga any more than I already do!
I was overjoyed. Just when I thought I couldn’t be prouder of my little sister.
