Crad-Based Technology
When I was younger, I wanted to grow up to become a Major League baseball player. Baseball runs in my family. My grandfather played in the sugarcane fields, my father played in the street, my uncles played Little League. Each generation, it seemed, got better and closer. I had one uncle who made it all the way to a Major League farm club before injuring his knee.
Creepy Violent Strange
Thirsty for some new music? I have a hard time understanding people when they say they have nothing new to listen to. It seems like everyone's making complete albums available for easy streaming these days. Here are a few I've just sort of stumbled upon over the last couple of days:
Cruel, Cruel World
It was just a few months ago that I was moaning">http://blog.stereophile.com/stephenmejias/040808immediately/">moaning and groaning about Sonic Youth's latest release being made available only on vinyl. I wrote:
Crumble and Pick Me Up
To tell the truth, I didn't want to come into the office today. Amazing, I know. And it didn't have all to do with the rain and the wind and the unusually cool June air, though those were factors. Mostly, it had to do with a">http://blog.stereophile.com/stephenmejias/010207everything/">a hummingbird. I wanted to stay home and strum the guitar in tune with all those sounds that were happening outside. But I did the next best thing.
Cua Cua Ra, Cua Cua
We're shipping our November issue today. Shipping gets me all excited and nervous. I don't sit, I shake. I don't walk, I dance. I don't talk, I sing. Like Willie Colon: Cua cua ra, cua cua!
Cubicle Life
The">http://blog.stereophile.com/stephenmejias/moving/">The move is going fairly well. I’m almost completely settled in. I didn’t feel like waiting for the movers, so I just moved myself. Because all Source Interlink employees at 261 Madison Avenue will now be on a single floor, some people lost their private offices. While some are now sharing offices, I took a cubicle. So I no longer have a view onto sunny decks, no redbrick walls, no green trees; the only thing I can see from my seat is a gray cloth partition.
Curses
A special treat today: the new Rye Coalition album, Curses, to be released by Gern">http://www.gernblandsten.com/">Gern Blandsten on April 18th, arrived in our office. Robert brought it over to me. I've been listening to it all day.
Custom Speakers and Sound
Daft Punks
Digital sales rep, Jon Banner, just shared with me this bit of beautiful brilliance.
Damaged Domes
Near the end of Wes’ auditioning, the domes of both upper-midrange units were inexplicably damaged.
