MartinLogan Monolith loudspeaker

MartinLogan Monolith loudspeaker

Most Stereophile readers are aware by now of why the full-range electrostatic should, in theory, be the ideal transducer. (If you aren't aware, see the accompanying sidebar.) Acoustat was the first manufacturer to design a full-range electrostatic that was so indestructible it came with a lifetime warranty. (MartinLogan is now offering a three-year warranty on their speakers, and is considering going to a lifetime warranty). But Acoustat was never able to solve another problem that has plagued all flat-panel speakers: treble beaming.

DVD-A vs SACD

DVD-A vs SACD

"This is offensive!" muttered usually mild-mannered Malcolm Hawksford, who was sitting next to me. "I'm leaving." The good professor was right. One thousand or so attendees at the 103rd Audio Engineering Society Convention, held at the end of September in New York, were being subjected to truly terrible sound. The irony was that the sound was that of 2- and 5-channel recordings made with 24-bit resolution and a 96kHz sampling rate, being played over a colored PA system to demonstrate the future of audio, in the form of DVD-Audio.

B&W HTM2D Diamond center channel

Forums

I'm looking at a B&W HTM2D on eBay and am wondering how much it is worth. It is at $500 right now and the auction says it sells for $4000!! I looked it up on the B&W site and it looks really awesome but want to make sure before I bid on it. What is a good price for these?? Please respond if you have any input about it.

Monk/Coltrane

I'm tantalized by the "Recording of the Month" as it isn't available yet, due Sept 27. So far, the best price I've seen is for preorder at artistdirect.com.

How does the new "Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane- At Carnegie Hall" compare to "Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane" recently released (SACD Hybrid) on Jazzland/Fantasy?

Please can we have a separate sub-forum for DBT

One of the reasons I stopped bothering with RAO was the place was flooded with acrimonious posts on this topic.

The topic of DBT (ABX, whatever) is a wee bit like Sex, Politics and Religion - nice to have, but don't discuss them - people's views are too ingrained to permit any rational discussion, let alone any sensible compromise.

Relegating this topic to its own forum would permit those that so desire, to continue the endless debate, while the rest of us that really couldn't give a continental damn, would not have to wade through a gazillion posts.

Musical Fidelity A3 24 DAC problem

Hi,
I have some clicks or cracks that happen occasionnally with the external DAC Musical Fidelity A3 24 during playback, it didn't happen before. I checked the DVD player, SPDIF cable, power cable and analog cables, everything is ok. Is it reported problem and is there a rather cheap solution ?
Thanks for your replies.

Digital Room EQ Behringer DEQ2496

Pro Audio has been using multiband equalizers for years to tune theater venues. Recently, I spent $300.00 on a Behringer DEQ2496 and was surprised at how effective it was. Also corrected were some annoying peaks in my BG RD75 ribbon loudspeakers. The automated system took care of the upper ranges and I manually tamed some of the bass problems out. As far as I could hear the insertion of this excellant equipment had no detectable degrading effects. I am using the electronic crossover, Behringer DCX2496, as well with excellant results.
