From the Street, 1.X.1905

On October 1, 1905, Czech worker Frantisek Pavlik was killed during a demonstration. Leos Janacek was so affected by the incident that he hurriedly wrote his one and only piano sonata. But as the well-known story goes, he burnt the third movement before anyone could play it, and threw the first two movements into the Vltava after the first private performance. Fortunately, the pianist copied the score, so now everyone can hear this undoubted and unqualified masterpiece.

Should ethical constraints be imposed on for-profit audio publications?

It's no secret that for-profit audio publications rely heavily on advertising revenue in order to remain profitable and financially solvent. However, unlike (for example) peer-reviewed medical journals, in which the authors of published scientific papers are required to fully disclose any financial links or funding from the pharmaceutical industry, etc., the audio reviewing industry seems to be free from any such ethical or financial disclosures.

Hoping for a Miracle

Hoping for a Miracle

So, I arrived at home (I mean, at Wes') one night, and decided to take John DeVore's advice about popping a CD into the hi-fi as simple background noise. My plan was to listen to Smog's A River Ain't Too Much to Love while feeding the cats in the kitchen.

Problems with Stereophile Editor's Choice CD Sampler Track 3 / Tweater Problems

Forums

I noticed the other day when playing this track, a 'buzzing' type of sound coming from the tweaters of my Paradigm S8 speakers, this was being caused by the bright flute sound on this track. I proceeded to remove the grilles on both speakers, I noticed the tweaters themselves were moving when the flute played. The movement is very subtle but it's there, it looks like one side of the tweaters lifts off a little letting air out. I took the same recording to my other room where I have a pair of S2's, I noticed the same bright sound with this track, though not as bad as with my S8's.
