money for hifi

Hi
I think most dealers try to sale more expensive components vs solving basic problems like room acoustic.
i know a body that he spend over 200,000$ for system and if you see his room you think the man is so crazy because his room is under standard for listenning.
after 6 month he say to his dealer that sound is not very good and dealer tell him you should change your speaker cable and i give you a 8000$ cable for solving problem
he buy it and see sound was better but never undrestand basic problem will effect on his brain in long term.

Understanding this audiophile world

Hey

For a time now i've been considering buying a new stereo set. Coming from a headset hooked up on a laptop i know what a change it will be -- or maybe i don't.

Before i take this step though i will have to do some jobs and save some money. This will at least take like a half year. I will have about 1500$ available to spoil myself to hell.

Warm sounding, cool running amp under $2K

Forums

Does anyone have any recommendations for a warm sounding, but cool running amp for under $2K. I currently have a Krell KST-100 that is heating up the house (I'm not kidding. We live in South Florida and this amp sounds great, but could double as a space heater!) and we are downsizing to a smaller home. The rest of the system is a Music Reference RM5, Proac SuperTowers, CAL Tercet, and a Well Tempered Record Player.
Also am considering downsizing the speakers to Proac Tablette Reference 8 Sigs. Any thoughts?
Looking for warm and listenable over cool and analytical.

Article on Interpretation of Stereophile's Digital Test Data?

Hi, All,

I have been searching the Stereophile web site indexes for an article that outlines the test procedures used by JA for testing digital components.

I seem to remember that some time in the past Stereophile ran an article (or sidebar) that explained the general procedures and apparatus used for the digital test reports, and the interpretation thereof.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but does such a report exist?

Thanks!

Ken

"Nah, man. You're a stranger. Good luck with that, though."
