Theme Or Mix-n-Match ?

Stereophile often carries monthly issues focused on a 'Theme " or equipment categories...... An issue reviewing Amplifiers, or another that reviews 3 loudspeakers....

Since I have a greater interest in Electronics - from a technical standpoint - some magazine issues that do not have any reviews on amplifiers, leave me less than satisfied.

I wonder if other readers too have a similar 'bias' ?

My request is that Stereophile instead shift to 'balanced' issues, with each issue carrying reviews of equipment in each category eg : Amplifiers, Speakers, etc...

Blood Work

Blood Work

Signs of sickness, with a scent like ennui, all over the apartment: dirtied tissues tossed to the floor, the many jilted cups of tea, unfinished this, unwashed that, empty cans of soup, the pale and quiet Moscode.

Oscillation at power down.

Forums

Hey! I own a Cambridge Audio A300. [great budget amp, BTW!] From day one this amp has made this strange oscillation noise when I power it down. I always have to make sure that the volume control is all the way down and that my sub is turned off before powering down the amp. If the volume is all the way down I don't get the noise.
Is this a problem with my unit or is this a design flaw? Otherwise the amp sounds terrific. No complaints there.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Thorens TD160 turntable

Hi. I'm new to the forum. I wonder if anyone could help me out with the problems with my belt-driven Thorens TD160 turntable. When it's powered on, motor runs fine, platter spins seemingly good. However, there's hum from speakers and when I brush the needle of the cartridge, no signal is heard (the cartridge works fine with another turntable). With ohm-meter, checked RCA audio cables, checked tonearm cables, they all work and don't seem to have been grounded.
What possibly is the problem?

Good turntable? Who made it?

Hi, my Uncle recently asked if I would like 2 turntables that had been stored at his radio station. I said sure. I am trying to figure out if they are worth the little bit of work they would need and who is the manufacturer. What I know about them is: 1: they have rim drive, 2: they have to have an enclosure built around them, 3: model # is 12-C, 4: s/n is A6281M 5: They were installed in 77' 6: Mostly aluminum, 7: Need tonearms. I cannot find anything on the internet about these turntables.
